Name: James Bebbington
Favourite River: Katun, Altai, Russia.
Occupation: Film-maker / Adventure Cameraman
I’ve always loved being in water since I was born, first swimming, then surfing and then when I found kayaking aged 8 I was hooked. My background is in freestyle, having trained and competed for over 20 years in it and being fortunate enough to have some competitive success over the years.
I took a little break from competing from 2016-2018 whilst I trained as a cameraman but will be competing again from 2019, specifically aiming at the Sort and Nottingham World Championships.
Aside from freestyle my work as a cameraman recently led me to a trip of a lifetime kayaking and filming a First Descent in Bhutan for Steve Backshall’s expedition series. I realised just how much I enjoyed being on expedition, paddling something so wild and untamed and how close you become as a group going through that experience. So on my return I am eager to explore more rivers and creeks as a whole new aspect of kayaking and filming has opened up to me.
Let’s see where the river takes me next – I’m so thankful for the opportunities to see and experience life that kayaking has given me.
